Google tag manager is a good tool that allows you manage and deploy marketing tags on your website without having to modify the code. To understand GTM we must have some knowledge about it. we should take some classes or we can learn it from google.

Setting Up Google Tag Manager

First you will need to create a Google Analytics account for your website if you haven’t already done so first install it .For all the tools you have a need of gmail account.After that you can sign up to google analytics, the next step is to setup Google Tag Manager.
Go again to your Google Tag Manager website first sign up in it with the same account which which you used in google analytics.After that sign in to add new account page. Give a name for your account and press on the continue button.

Now you have need to add a container to your account. A container may be a website or Android platforms or iOS. In this case we will use the web.
You can use your site’s domain name for the container name.Now it is up to you how many containers You want to add for your account. Once you complete your container name and select any three options Web,iOS or Android after that click on the create button to continue.

Now your Google Tag Manager account become ready, the next step is to add a new tag.So you can do this by clicking on create new tag.
After choosing a tag product. Currently there are 20+ integration templates available there.first of all we choose Google Analytics, but we can always add more tags and choose different products according to my needs. You  have click on custom HTML to add any other custom code snippets.

After choosing  Google Analytics, you will be asked to select between Universal Analytics or Classic Analytics. You have to Choose universal analytics, and you will be suggested to provide your analytics tracking ID.
The tracking ID is a special code,this code is not relevant to any other in world that allows Google to identify your site. You can also obtain this ID by logging into your Google Analytics account and visiting the Admin tab.
Select the property and account for your site and then click on tracking info to expand it. After that you will see the tracking code link.

When you Click on tracking code it will bring you to the tracking code page and will also reveal your UA tracking ID.

You have to copy Copy your UA tracking ID and paste it in Google Tag Manager. On track type choose Page View and then click on the continue button.

Now tag configuration wizard will now ask you when to fire this tag. Select (All Pages) and then click on the create button tag.
When to fire on the tag
Google Tag Manager will now show you a tracking code that you have need to add into your WordPress site. You need to copy this code.

Adding Tag Manager Code in WordPress..

First thing you will have to do is install and activate Insert Headers and Footers plugin. When you activate, you need to visit Settings » Insert Headers and Footers.

Paste your tag manager code in the upper side means header section and click on the save button to store your settings.
If you are not interested to install a plugin, then you can also add the Google Tag Manager code in your WordPress theme or Child theme. Simply edit the header.php template and paste the code right after <body> tag.

Publish Your Container

Until you publish the container tags in google tag manager will not go live .after publishing go Google Tag Manager dashboard and then press on the publish button.
